Serna Center Event Reflection Papers
Reflection papers will be 2 pages in length and based on a question assigned at the end of the previous week. Reflection papers will be graded on content and how well the topic question is answered using critical thinking and proper grammar. Your reflection should explain how presented models or theories apply to your personal experiences and experiences as a student.
Join an ASI Committee Workshop--Answer the all aspects of the following prompt:
Provide a brief summary of the workshop: Include the major points that were discussed.
Describe the major benefits of joining an ASI committee.
Based on the various committees that were discussed, what would be a committee you would be interested in joining and why?
How would joining a committee benefit you personally?
Chicana Activist Panel--Answer the following:
What does activism mean to you?
What most resonated with your during this panel?
Did you know about the Mexican/o Chicana/o movement in Sacramento? What most impacted you hearing about it?
How are movements like the Mexican/o Chicana/o movement needed in order to advance social, economic, and cultural rights?

Cesar Chavez Policy Briefing--Answer the following:

Student Success Chat: Balancing Family and College--Answer the following:
Do you communicate with your family about your academic and social life at college and any challenges that may arise within each so that they can better understand your college experience? If you do not, what can you do to better assist them in understanding your college experience? If you do, what have you done to assist in this?
What have you done in balancing your student, work, and or family responsibilities? Have these been successful? Why or why not? If they have not been successful, what can you modify so that you are successful?

Leadership Initiative (LI) Reflection Papers
To assist students in continuing their leadership development, we will be incorporating the Leadership Initiative: Hornet Pride Certificate into the course. Students will participate in the two workshop sessions for the certificate in class. At the completion of each workshops, you will be prompted by the Student Organizations and Leadership: Leadership Initiative (SOL: LI) staff to complete a reflection for the workshop. Your assignment for this class is to submit this reflection after it has been submitted to SOL: LI. Both reflections will need to be submitted by the last class of the semester.
Midterm Project: Social Issues Group Project
For the midterm project, students will be placed in groups of six and will be tasked to conduct a 5 minute informational presentation on a pre-selected social issue. Students will be asked to conduct research on their specific topic; delineate the major problem within the issue; provide some potential solutions to the problem; and potential career opportunities within these fields. More detailed prompts will be provided further in the semester.
STRONG 2017 - Sac State's "Shark Tank-style Competition! - Please consider participating in this competition withyour midterm project, as both have very similar guidelines. STRONG is an academic competition where students present ideas about how to improve their lives, their community, or their career field to regional employers. Participating students will be eligible for a $1,000 award. The purpose of this event is to help students be career ready and practice interview skills. - When: Friday, April 21 2017 from 9am-2pm - 9am-11am: Round 1 Presentations - 11am-1pm: Employer Reception - 1pm-2pm: Round 2 (Finalists) Presentations - Where: University Library
Final Project: Engaging in Your Personal Narrative Essay
For the final project, students will be asked to utilize theories and concepts that have been introduced throughout the semester and speak on how they can utilize their voice in advocacy and how to become agents of change within their communities. See the attached file below for more details.
Spoken Word Contest At the end of the semester, CAMP will be hosting a recognition ceremony for this year’s CAMP cohort. As part of the ceremony, we would like to have two students perform a spoken word piece on their identity and how they can use their new found knowledge to become agents of change. Students interested in this opportunity will submit their entries at the end of March. Those selected will not have to submit a final project. More detailed will be provided further in the semester.
